"Wallace Chaffee, 78, of Hamlin, died at a hospital in Axtell, Kans., Saturday afternoon, July 31, 1965, following a short illness. He was born in the Zion community of Brown County on November 4, 1886. A meat cutter by profession, he retired from a position with the Fleming Company in 1955, when he and his wife moved to Hamlin to make their home. He served as mayor of Hamlin for two terms, from 1960 to 1964. Mr. Chaffee was a member of the Reserve Christian Church and the Hamlin Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Zora, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Velma) Spangler of Fairview, and Mrs. Leslie (Vada Mae) Hopper of Hiawatha; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the Meek Mortuary Chapel at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, August 3, with the Rev. Harold Wolf officiating. Interment will be in the Hamlin Cemetery."
