Sherrer
—Mrs. Della M. Sherrer, 70, wife of Jere L. Sherrer of Hiawatha, died Sunday morning, April 13, 1952, at the Hiawatha Community hospital after an illness of three months. She is survived by her husband of the home at 604 Iowa street, son, Leonard Sherrer of Hamlin, two grandchildren, Judy and Jere Sherrer, sister, Mrs. Anna Pfeiffer of Hamlin, two brothers, Herbert Chaffee of Lincoln, Nebr., Wallace Chaffee of Fairview, Kans.
    Mrs. Sherrer was a member of the Hiawatha Christian church, the Hiawatha Rebekah lodge and the Hamlin Eastern Star chapter.
    Funeral services will be held from the Christian church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 16, by Rev. M. Lee Sorey with interment at the Mt. Hope cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by the Hamlin Eastern Star chapter.

Sherrer
— Della Chaffee Sherrer, daughter of Corwin Wallace and Harriet Chaffee, was born at White Cloud, Kans., January 11, 1882 and passed away Sunday, April 13, 1952 at 10 a.m. at the Hiawatha Community hospital. At the age of seven, she moved with her parents to a farm 1½ miles east of Hamlin. In 1902 the family, then consisting of her parents, herself and a younger brother, moved to 502 Utah street, Hiawatha, Kans., where on Sunday March 26, 1905, she was united in marriage to Jere L. Sherrer. Rev. James McGuire, a retired minister of the Hiawatha Christian church, performed the ceremony. The couple went immediately to Mr. Sherrers farm home near Hamlin, Kans., where they resided for 35 years. They moved to 604 Iowa street, Hiawatha, in December of 1940. To this union was born, August 10, 1910, one son, Jerome Leonard Sherrer.
    Both Mr. Mrs. Sherrer became members of the Hamlin Christian church in 1907, and later, both place their membership with the Hiawatha Christian church. Mrs. Sherrer was a devoted member and a tireless worker. She often played the piano for the Sunday school and sang as regularly as her health would permit in the choir. She was president of the Loyal Women's class for two years, also secretary and treasurer for three years. She was also treasurer of the Women's Council for four years. Mrs. Sherrer was a charter member of the Hamlin Eastern Star No. 327 which was instituted in 1908. She served as Worthy Matron in 1917. At the age of 19 she became a member of the Hiawatha Rebekah Lodge No. 271, where she served as chaplain. She was chartered as Noble Grand of the Hamlin Rebekah Lodge No. 624. In Wichita, Kans., she received the Degree of Chivalry, the only degree bestowed on a Rebekah by the Subordinate IOOF Order. She also received the title of Lady Sherrer from the Auxiliary L.A.M. No. 5 at Wichita, Kans. At the time of Mrs. Sherrer's death, her membership was with the Hiawatha Rebekah Lodge No. 271.
    She is survived by her husband, Jere L. Sherrer, her son, Leonard, his wife, Wilma L., two grandchildren, Judy and Jere, one sister, Mrs. Anna Pfeiffer, two brothers, Herbert Chaffee, Lincoln, Nebr., Wallace Chaffee, Fairview, Kans., several nieces, nephews, also many neighbors and friends of long standing.
