May 29, 1930 Hamlin Weekly News:
"O. D. Chaffee, of the Hamlin neighborhood, two miles east and three miles north of Marrill [sic] died at the Falls City Hospital Monday morning at one o'clock. He had been ill for several weeks, suffering from a stroke. It was the fourth stroke he had suffered, but at that time it was not thought serious, and hopes for his recovery prevailed until a few days ago, when he took a turn for the worse. He leaves a wife and six children, besides many friends to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the Brethern [sic] Church in Hamlin, Wednesday afternoon."
