Third son of Rev. John Blunt (1706 - 1748) and Sarah Pepperell Frost (1713 - 1772) of New Castle, brother of Captain John Blunt (1734 - 1798) and Capt. Charles David Blunt (1738 - 1787). A shipbuilder, he purchased land at Frame Point and worked on the construction of The US Sloop of War Ranger, built by John Leighton and commanded by John Paul Jones. He was married twice, first to Elizabeth Slade (1741 - 1769), with whom he had 8 children, including shipbuilders William Blunt, Jr. (1764 - 1831) and John Blunt (1766 - 1816). He was married second to Elizabeth Mehitable March (1743 - 1828), with whom he had 6 children, eldest of which was Edmund March Blunt (1770 - 1862), publisher of nautical chart books like the American Coast Pilot.
