Pierson
—William Virgil Pierson, son of John F., Sarah Pierson, was born April 8, 1867, near Oregon, Holt county, Mo., died at the Sabetha hospital Oct. 31, 1940, aged 73 years, 6 months, 23 days. He came to Kansas with his parents, his brother John, sister Effie, in 1876, settled on a farm near White Cloud, where he grew to manhood. In 1888 he was married to Minnie Chaffee. 6 children came to bless this union—1 daughter, Eliza Musselman, of Hiawatha, preceded her father in death in 1936. The 5 whom survive are Boyd Pierson, of Elwood, Kans.; Mrs. Oscar Mueller, of Robinson, Kans.; Mrs. Sarah Dunn, of White Cloud, Kans.; Corwin Pierson, of Mountain Home, Ark., Mrs. Annie Benson, of Nashville, Tenn. In 1889 he, his wife, were baptized by his father, who was a minister in the Church of God, in this faith he was a strong believer until the end. On Dec. 27, 1931 his wife died. April 1, 1933, he was married to Kathryn Mathews, of Pawnee City, Nebr., who still survives him. Mr. Pierson was manager of grain elevators in Brown, Doniphan counties for over 30 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, 5 children, 19 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Effie Benson, of White Cloud, one brother, E. O. Pierson, Hiawatha, besides a host of other relatives, friends. He was a kind husband, loving father. Funeral was held at the Hargis mortuary, Hiawatha, Nov. 3, 1940, with Hugh Lomax, Christian minister, of Hiawatha; N. J. Lewis, Baptist minister at Hamlin, in charge.
