CHAFFEE, GEORGE WILLIAM George William Chaffee, age 93, of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012. George was born on July 2, 1919 to Clyde and Margaret (Dudenhofer) Chaffee in Gagetown, MI. George received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Adrian College and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Garrett Evangelical Seminary. He would go on to be a United Methodist Minister for 42 years. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years. George thoroughly enjoyed anything that flew. After retirement he pursued his pilot's license and enjoyed flying both real and model planes. George was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters and the love of his life, Doris. George was married to Doris Strickler on September 1, 1945. They were married for 62 years before her passing. He is survived by their five children: Edmund "Ted" (Becky) Chaffee, G. Carol (Steve) Lawrence, M. Adrian Chaffee, Stanley W. Chaffee, and Eileen (Jim Foster) Chaffee. He is survived by three sisters: Frances McCoon, Arlene (Carl) Stilson, and Shirley Chaffee; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service for George will be held at Clark Retirement Community in the Chapel at 11:00 AM on Wednesday October 17. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Clark Retirement Community. Internment will take place at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church.
