ANNA CHAFFEE
A startling and very sad intelligence reached the city that Miss Anna Chaffee was drowned. In company of a number of young folks, she had gone to the pond in Spring River just above the mill dam and was engaged in skating. It so happened that she ventured upon ice not sufficiently strong enough for her support and it gave. Albert Miller, a young man of the party made a desperate effort to rescue the drowning girl barely escaped himself. Miss Chaffee, 18 or 19 years old and socially prominent was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. F. W. Chaffee, well known Carthage residents (bio by NJBrewer)
