French Admiral and Senator. Philippe Henri Xavier Antoine de Gaulle was born to General Charles de Gaulle and his wife, Yvonne, and was their only son. He received his education from the prestigious Collège Stanislas de Paris, where his father also studied. Following his graduation, he joined the Free French Navy in 1940 and served in the North Atlantic until 1944. He was then deployed to France itself where he fought alongside the Resistance and the Allies in driving out the Nazis, participating in the Normandy Landings of D-Day. In the post-war period, he was actively involved in various conflicts in Indochina, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, China, Morocco, and Algeria. He was appointed admiral in 1980 and later retired from military service in 1982 as Inspector General of the Navy. Additionally, he served as a senator from Paris for eighteen years, from 1986 to 2004. For his dedicated service to the nation, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, the Grand Cross of the National Order of Merit, the War Cross, and the Medal of Aeronautics. He passed away at the age of 102 at the Institution Nationale des Invalides, the historic French veterans hospital in central Paris.
