Television Sports Journalist & Author. He will be remembered for his work on ESPN, notably his coverage of the National Football League. After studying at El Camino College, he served with the United States Army. Following his discharge, he landed a job as a staff writer with the Atlanta Constitution covering the Atlanta Braves and Falcons. In 1987, he distinguished himself as recipient of the George Polk Award which is rarely given to a sports reporter. In 1991, Mortensen joined ESPN and would become a regular presence on the network, as he reported on the programs "Sunday NFL Countdown," "Monday NFL Countdown," "Sports Center," in addition to ESPN Radio. He authored the book "Playing For Keeps" (1991).
