Bio
I became interested in genealogy in 1978. I had always been told that if you met someone named Hawpe you were related. So I set out to confirm the story. I was able to trace the HAWPE lineage back to a Rudolph Hawpe who settled in Greenville, Augusta County, Virginia in 1784. There I hit a brick wall and was unable to find the next generation.
My brother Gary became interested and we began tracing the descendants of Rudolph Hawpe. As of October 6, 2017 we have identified over 15,388 descendants of Rudolph Hawpe plus spouses.
In September 2009 that brick wall came tumbling down. All it took was one swipe of a swab for DNA Y-Chromosome testing which was submitted by my brother Gary. Which resulted in finding the Hawpe ancestral homeland and clues to taking the lineage back to the early 1500's.
I joined Find A Grave in February 2010 and have been creating memorial pages for those descendants and their spouses who we have burial locations for. Another big project has been to find memorials of these descendants, created by other gravers and suggest corrections and provide additional information to be added to them and have them linked to the next generation or spouse.
I appreciate all the volunteers who take photos of these graves as they are scattered all across the country.
