He served as the 38th Governor of Florida from January 2, 1979 until January 3, 1987. His father served in Florida's State Senate; Bob studied Political Science at the University of Florida and later attained his law degree from Harvard University. Following a highly successful career as an attorney, he was elected to and served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1966 to 1970. From 1970 to 1978, he served in the Florida State Senate. Graham succeeded Reubin Askew as Governor of Florida and during his tenure, he prioritized environmental causes. He succeeded Paula Hawkins for Florida's US Senatorial seat and while in Washington, he served as the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and led the investigation into the attacks of 9/11. Graham had an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic Presidential Nomination in 2004.
