He was born in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Earl M. Ammon and Edna F. Carpenter. He lived in Idanha before moving to John Day in 1991. He worked for Stackard Lumber Co. in Idanha for 20 years. In John Day he worked for D. R. Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, two sons; three daughters and 12 grandchildren.
