Bio

I am a life time member of the community raised in Denison the majority of my life and a Denison Alumni of 1979. I am a descendant of William T. Lankford of Grayson County and my family has been in the process the past 1 1/2 years trying to clean up and restore the Lankford Cemetery. Unfortunately, as quick as we get one small area cleaned and start on the next it's time to start over. The cemetery was in horrific shape and most headstones damaged by cattle, environment, and fallen trees. The intial cleaning started in October 2011 and was assisted by an Eagle scout and church group as a project. We have cut out and trimmed many trips and hauled off truckloads of material. A new sign has been constructed of steel labeled and secured at the entrance. However, the project is much more than we could have ever imagined. I am currently in the process of working with the county commissioner to assist in providing us with permanent access road to the site as past road has been blocked on four sides by homesteads. Access, unfortunately hasn't been accepted by all members. At this time, we are in the process of locating, flagging and identifying each burial site and headstone, taking pictures and will be progressively uploading. However, we need to find a way to obtain a grant or financial assistance with the large costs for this project and I am trying to identify what organization I need to contact to start this process. If anyone is interested in helping we desperately need it and will greatly appreciate any help offered. My contact number is 903-624-4136
