Business executive. Co-founder of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), an American multinational corporation that provides information technology and professional services, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia and employing 74,000 people in over 70 countries. Clients include commercial and state, local and federal government agencies. When founded in 1959 in Los Angeles, the company initially provided computer software, and it was the first company to be listed on the American Stock Exchange and within 4 years of its founding became the largest software company in the United States. Fletcher Jones, as a hobby, became involved in the breeding and racing of Thoroughbred horses of which he had over 150 of them, and he acquired a 3,912 acre property in the Santa Ynez Valley that was named Westerly Stud Farms. He also became an art collector, in particular the works of French Impressionists such as Degas, Pissarro, and Monet. One painting by Picasso fetched $47 million when sold in 1989. The Fletcher Jones Foundation exists to this day and totals $155 million, making approximately 70 grants annually. An experienced pilot, he however met his death on a rainy night near his Santa Ynez ranch while piloting his private aircraft.
