son of Stephen F. Chadwick - June Smith per death record, but son of Stephen Fowler Chadwick and Jane Ann Smith per his biography as a justice of the Washington state supreme court. His father was Oregon secretary of state and governor.
He married Emma Plummer on Mar 2 1887.

He was mayor of Colfax 1891-93, state land commissioner 1894-1897, sat on the Superior Court 1900-1908, and was on the Washington supreme court 1908-1919, serving as chief justice in 1919.

In 1870, he was in Oregon with his parents; transcript of census has typos.

In 1880 census, age 17, in East Salem, Marion Co OR, with parents S.F. Chadwick of CT and Jane Chadwick of VA., along with Ella, 23; Mary, 12; Pitzer, 8.

Found 1900 census for Colfax city, Whitman, Washington, where he is shown as born April 1863 in Oregon, married 13 years to wife Emma, with daughters Claire L(Feb 1888, WA), Harriet(May 1892, WA) , Elizabeth P(Jan 1897, WA) and son Stephen F.(Aug 1894, WA)

Son Stephen was b. 8/14/1894 and died August 1975 in Seattle. In 1940 he was in Seattle with wife Margaret and children Mary T.18 and Stephen 15

brother Pitzer was in Steilacoom, Pierce Co WA in 1940, a widower.
