José María de la Encarnción Acebedo y García was the son of José Antonio Escobedo (Acebedo Acevedo Azevedo, died before May 1789) and María Gertrudis García (died before May 1789). He enlisted as a soldado de cuera and appears as a member of the Santa Bárbara Presidio garrison in the 1790 Census. He was 19 years old when he married 39-year-old widow María Micaela Landeros y Saenz de Féliz at the Santa Bárbara Presidio Chapel on May 24, 1789 (BP Marriage 00006). María Micaela was the widow of soldado Juan Victorino Féliz y Vergam (Veltran). José María died at Santa Bárbara the following year and was buried in the Presidio Chapel December 11, 1790 ("Yglesia del Real Presidio" BP Death 00022). After his death, María Micaela married (3) widowed soldado Felipe Indalecio González at the Santa Bárbara Presidio Chapel on March 17, 1792 (BP Marriage 00012).
