From the Los Angeles Examiner 02-1908: "MISS CHAFFEE TO BE BRIDE OF BROTHER'S BROTHER-IN-LAW, WHO WILL BE HUSBAND OF SISTERS' SISTER-IN-LAW - When Miss Bessie Chaffee of Sherman marries Lee Bounds of this city, a peculiar family union will have been made. She will have married her brothers' brother-in-law, while he will have married his sisters' sister-in-law. At a party given at the home of L.W. Chaffee[Lawrence Wayne] of Sherman [Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles] on Saturday evening the announcement was made of the engagement of Miss Bessie Chaffee to Lee Bounds. The cards announcing the engagement were as follows: 'L.W. [Lawrence Wayne] Chaffee and C.C. Chaffee [Chester Chauncy] announce the engagement of their sister, Miss Bessie, to their wives' brother, Lee Bounds.' Cupid while on one of his jaunts, managed to bring together C.C. Chaffee and L.W. Chaffee and the Bounds sisters and the two couples were married. Miss Bessie and Lee Bounds were then old enough to act as maid of honor and groomsman and had give little thought to acting the parts of the principals in a matrimonial allicance. Since the death of her parents Miss Bessie has made her home with her brother, L.W. Chaffee of Sherman. She is a very pretty young woman and has a large number of friends. Mr. Bounds has spent several years with his father prospecting in Alaska, but has recently returned to this city, where he will make his home. The date of the wedding has not been set as yet, but it will be within a year." [NOTE: According to the marriage certificate, Miss Bessie Marguerite Chaffee was living at 1452 S. Union Ave., Los Angeles, California and her occupation was a music teacher]

Bessie is buried at the Pacheco Cemetery, Contra Costa County, California, formerly the Odd Fellow's Cemetery. Bessie was delivered into this world by Dr. Cephas Bard in 1887 at home a couple of blocks from the corner of Main Street & Ventura Avenue going north. All but one sibling born in San Buenaventura (Walter Scott Jr., being born in Santa Barbara at Rebecca's parents house), were born at the Walter Scott Chaffee rancho home on Ventura Avenue, San Buenaventura, California. Bessie was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church. (twc 2008)
