Bermudian, June 22 – Last Tuesday evening our community was shocked at hearing the report that Mr. P. M. Binder, a prominent citizen of Latimore township, had committed suicide by hanging himself in his barn near this place.
Mr. Binder is reported to have been in his usual good health and spirits and no one could have been persuaded that the gentleman would have even thought of committing such a rash act.
Tuesday afternoon about one o'clock Mr. Binder was seen by his family at work in the orchard, near the house spreading hay. After that he was not seen alive again.
At supper time the family was called to supper, but Mr. Binder not putting in an appearance, the family became alarmed and went in search of him.
After searching through the orchard they went into the barn and were horror struck and finding the husband and father suspended by a rope from a cross beam a lifeless form. This was a five o'clock. His neck had been dislocated and death must have ensued instantaneously.
No cause can be given for the perpetration of this sad through rash act.
Mr. Binder was a member of the Lutheran church, a member of Peter Miller Post G.
A. R., of York Springs, a member of the Jr. O. U. A. M., of Hampton, a member of
the I. O. O. F., of York Springs, and also a member of Latimore Grange No. 945.
He leaves a wife and four grown children who have the sympathies of the entire community.
The remains were interred in the Bermudian Lutheran cemetery this Friday morning, a vast number of sorrowing relatives and friends attending the service.
