Maria Sinforosa Ramona Sanchez was born on July 18, 1812, at Mission Santa Barbara, Alta California, her father, Juan Maria Sanchez, was 20, and her mother, Maria Inez Josefa Guevara, was 18. Sinforosa married George Nidever on February 13, 1841, at Mission Santa Barbara, Alta California. Sinforosa died on August 12, 1892, in Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, California. Sinforosa was first buried at Cieneguitas Cemetery, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, California. In 1912 Sinforosa was reinterred at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, California. The father of Sinforosa Sanchez Juan Maria Sanchez, was a retired soldado (soldier) of the Presidio of Santa Barbara, and was granted the Rancho Santa Clara del Norte by the Mexican government. The rancho consisted of 14,000+ acres of the land south of the Santa Clara River to below Nyland Acres, and from the 101 Fwy back to South Mountain [including Saticoy]. Their adobe home was in the east part of the rancho and had an avenue leading up to it, which was lined by eucalyptus trees, that was later called Ditch Road. In 1963 Ditch Road was re-named Rose Ave. The road running north to south in front of where the adobe home sat became Del Norte Ave., and was later re-named Los Angeles Ave. The rancho was sold off in the 1960's, except for a house on Ditch Road, which Vicenta Sanchez Elwell Dominguez [sister] lived until her death in 1892 at San Buenaventura,Ventura Co., CA. The Sanchez adobe, which is on the east side of Los Angeles Ave., was enlarged in 1900, with a second floor added. It is now called the Lloyd-Butler ranch house. El Rio, CA, is on the Rancho Santa Clara del Norte. Her grandfather, Josef Tadeo Sanchez, was born in Villa de Sinaloa, Nueva Espana and married in Real de los Alamos, Sonora in 1781 to Maria Petra Montiel.

Information source is Alex Grzywacki from the Santa Barbara Historical Museum: Santa Barbara County Vital Records: "Sinforosa Ramon Nidever died on Aug 12th 1892 per the "Book of Deaths, page 26, line 661. It has the place of burial as "Catholic Cemetery". As of 1892 the only Catholic cemeteries were Montecito and Cieneguitas. Montecito Catholic Cemetery is very close to Nidever Lane in Carpenteria. It is near the corner of Ortega Ridge Road and East Valley road and it closed in 1917. Cieneguitas Catholic Cemetery closed in 1896. NOTE: there is no death certificate or notice in records regarding George Nidever or Sinforosa Sanchez Nidever. So, until further research, it is unknown exactly where George & Sinforosa were buried in Santa Barbara County, CA but evidence suggests that they were last interred in 1912 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery."

NOTE: New information shows that in 1912, George and possibly Sinforosa's remains were re-interred at Calvary Catholic Cemetery from Cieneguitas Catholic Cemetery, where they had been interred. There is a burial card had Calvary Cemetery which has been located by Alex Gryzwacki, a volunteer of the Santa Barbara Genealogical Society and Project Researcher on the lost graves of the men who served during the Civil War with the 1st Battalion Native California Calvary,Company C (The Santa Barbara Company) with that information. They share Lot #34, Section C-12, Graves 1, 2 and 3 [which was owned by daughter Isabella Tomasa Nidever Beal] with sons Marcos, George Emigdio and Ramon Jacobo "Jake" Nidever. The most likely scenario seems to be that Isabella had George moved at the time John Beal was building Vegamar to Cieneguitas. After Sinforosa died in 1892, she may have been interred at Cieneguitas also. Then in 1912 George and Sinforosa were re-interred to Calvary Catholic Cemetery by Isabella. Isabella Tomasa Nidever Beal is at Calvary also.Father: Juan Maria Sanchez
