Embalmer. An advertisement from Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries, Richmond, California in 1957 stated that Miss McGaffey had been employed by them for the past 3 years, but she remained with them until her retirement in 1976 making her employment with them for 22 years. Also the article stated that at the time she was the only woman embalmer in Contra Costa County. Originally a nurse in Minnesota, she moved to Hanford in 1943 and worked at People's Funeral Chapel. She was a Past President of the Richmond Soroptomist Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Vista Cerrito Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and in 1984 named Volunteer of the Year for the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Bay Area in Oakland. She was a graduate of California College of Mortuary Science, Los Angeles and a lifetime member of the Methodist Church.
