Funeral services for Harry F. Blaney, 36, W. High St., Coaldale, who died yesterday in the Danville hospital, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday with further services at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's church, with Rev. Joseph Conway, pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in St. Joseph's cemetery, Summit Hill. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Blaney, natives of Ireland, Mr. Blaney was a lifelong resident of Coaldale. In his youth he was a school teacher and in 1910 he resigned his position as principal of the West Ward school to become cashier of the First National Bank in Coaldale. He was one of the first directors of the bank. Active in all civic and community affairs, Mr. Blaney was one of the committee that arranged the erection of St. Mary's Parochial school in 1915. He resigned as bank cashier in 1925 because of ill health. At one time he served a four-year term as Coaldale's burgess.
A member of St. Mary's church. Coaldale, he was choirmaster there for many years. He participated in many Panther Creek Valley amateur theatrical productions and was well known as a singer. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Cavanaugh; three sons, James attending officers' training school at Camp Lee, Private First Class Harry at the Savannah, air base, and John, Jersey City. N.J., a daughter, Mrs. Vernon Courtright, of Stroudsburg; three brothers, Patrick and James Blaney, Coaldale, and John of Jersey City, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Gordon, Mrs. Kate Malloy and Mrs. James McElhenney, all of Coaldale.
