Reuben Chaffee, b. Jan 23, 1785, (prob.) Clarendon, Vermont. d. Oct. 8, 1842, Berkshire, Franklin, Vermont. He was the son of Comfort Chaffee and Lucy Stow. He married Sept. 27, 1807 at Berkshire, Vt. Sally Danforth b. March 20, 1783, (Jan. 20, 1793, gravestone) Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts. d. June 10, 1873, Berkshire, Franklin, Vermont. She was the daughter of William Danforth of Billerica, Mass. and Priscilla Hoadley.

He took the freeman's oath, Sept. 12, 1806. Before he married he bought fifty-four acres of land from his father. In 1812 and 1813, he bought land from his brother, Jasper, that had also once been owned by their father. "Reuben Chaffee was a farmer and his farm was directly north of his father's farm and on the highway leading to Frelighsburg, Quebec… was a stout man , becoming very corpulent in later years." He died of dropsy. His will was admitted to probate at St. Albans, Vt., Oct. 16, 1842.
