REDMOND, Madora married BREWSTER, S. R. December 17 1884. FHL Film Number 1290847

Madorah was born according to the US Census of 1860, in California around 1853' but her mother was living with a man also from Texas, named John C Becknell. This may had been in Mariposa Co.

Date of birth for Madorah was caluated by Findagrave member, S. Trotter, as stated by her headstone as 47 years, 1 mo, 7 days, but according to dates in census and order of birth by her siblings, we have here a discrepancy as when she was born, only by the year not the month or day. Madorah's husband may have thought she was 47 when she could have been 49. Her brother was born in Oct of 1858. Then one other issue is if she was born in 1858, she would had been only a little more than 12 years old in Nov of 1870 when she married for the first time.

Later on, Madorah Florence Morris finds her first love to, William Bishop Redman, and they marry on Nov. 13, 1870 in Mariposa Co. Then in the 1880 census, we see her married, as she states, and as a boarder, but living alone in Bakersfield. We may assume that they had no children. As for William, he's seen in Cathay's Valley, Mariposa Co, since 1877, as seen in the California Great Registers of that year, and some years afterward to 1886. So they must have separated and divorce. And again later still in Bakersfield, she received word that her brother Benjamin was shot and killed in a gun fight in San Luis Obispo, here she possibly saw an opportunity to leave for San Luis Obispo and no go back to Bakersfield for good, and attending her older brothers funeral, this was 1884. It is also said " Electa Becknell " mother to Madorah, leaves her home in Lewis, Mariposa Co; and her older brothers Elijah and Joseph coming down from Wyoming for the funeral, but no mentioning of her father. Now later that year she meets up with Silas R. Brewster and they marry in San Luis Obispo on the 17th of Dec. 1884.

We still have a few problems with her, for in the 1900 census ,she's is now known as Florence. Census now states she was born in Illinois, but her father as a native of Ohio, which is right, but her mother she states as Spain. Checking around for her husband Silas R Brewster, who may had married again right after Madorah, but we found no other marriage record. The census did say that they were married for 16 years, which seems right. So did Madorah actually have a middle name as Florence. When we see Madorah's death record, it still states Florence, born in Illinois, but now Madorah has a new year of birth, 1858. Then one more evidence that makes Madorah a Morris, is that her husband Silas states, her father as S. R. Morrisell, but it is unfortunate here that Madorah's husband didn't know her mother's name, he states, uncertain.

One other issue regarding her place of birth, we may not no where for sure , but if the family came to California and settled around Kern Co, they would had been living in the southern Sierras of that county, for miners were occupying in that area, as this was regarded the first settled area, as gold was discovered around 1851 - 52 , which could had been the case with the Morris family. And possibly moved later to San Luis Obispo Co. Bakersfield wouldn't be seen as a town till Thomas Baker decided to farm that area by 1860.

To note; William B Redman passed away on June 16, 1905.
Her second husband, Silas R. Brewster passed away in 1908 and was a resident of Santa Marguerita, San Luis Obispo Co..
