Chet, for a time, owned a real estate agency "Chet Chaffee Reality" on Thompson Blvd., Ventura, CA. On the 1910 census of Los Angeles, CA he is listed as living in a boarding house owned by Mary Alice Bounds (Lee Bounds's mother), age 45 but Dollie was not listed as living there but there is another daughter of Mary Alice and Homer Bounds, Maude Bounds, age 18, born in ID, father born OR and mother born IA. [he must have been divorced from Dollie by 1910 - twc 2007]

Per the 1930 U.S. Federal census of Ventura, Ventura Co., CA Chester C. Chaffee is age 46, born CA, living as head of the household with wife Anita E. Chaffee, age 43, born CA and three children: Olga R. Chaffee, age 17, William C. Chaffee, age 16 and Norma A. Chaffee, age 11.

Obituary from Ventura Star Free Press Newspaper January 1960: "LAST SON OF PIONEER CHAFFEES SUCCUMBS IN VENTURA AT 76 - Chester Chauncey Chaffee, last of five sons of Ventura pioneer Walter Scott Chaffee, died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 76. Mr. Chaffee was born on Ventura Ave, Sept. 9, 1883 in the first wood frame house ever built in Ventura. His father, who to came to Ventura in 1861, had the lumber for the house shipped to San Francisco. Up to that time, all houses in Ventura were adobe. He attended Healdsburg college in Sonoma County and studied dentistry, but went into the real estate business. He also worked for a number of years at the Pt. Hueneme Navy base, before his retirement in 1950. Mr. Chaffee resided at 2022 Pierpont Blvd., Ventura. His wife, Anita Elwell Chaffee, preceded him in death. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Olga Connick, Oak View; and Mrs. Norma Taylor, Ventura; a son, William Chaffee, Monterey; sisters, Mrs. Ethel McElhaney, Lodi and Mrs. Bessie Staley, Martinez, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph P. Reardon funeral chapel with Inez Smith, soloist and Beverly Eidson, soloist. Burial will be at Ivy Lawn Cemetery."
