In the Chaffee genealogy, Elmer Williams Chaffee's wife is identified as Melinda L. Shattuck. On the 1860 census, Rebeca is head of household, and Elmer's children are present in that household. On the 1900 census, Rebeca M. Chaffee appears in the household of Alfred W. Chaffee, identified as his mother. The date of birth given on her death certificate is the same as that given in the Chaffee genealogy for Melinda L. Shattuck. Clearly, both sources refer to the same individual, and I have tried to merge the names as best I can.
